A bus from Detroit (sponsored by MECAWI and Michigan Welfare Rights) will be going to Benton Harbor on March 7 when civil rights activist Rev. Edward Pinkney will be in court following his outrageous jailing (for one year) for quoting scripture to blast a local racist judge. (see below for details of the charges)

If any Ann Arbor/Ypsi area folks want to ride the bus (tickets $25 but no one refused for lack of funds) we will arrange a pick up along I-94.  If you can help with a donation that would be great also.
Make checks payable to MECAWI, 5922 Second Ave., Detroit 48202

MECAWI calls for all to support Rev. Pinkney

Rev. Pinkney under attack by RACIST judge, prosecutor, and judicial system in Benton Harbor

Rev. Ed Pinkney  was imprisoned for stating:
"Judge Butzbaugh, it shall come to pass; if thou continue not to hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God to observe to do all that is right; which I command thee this day, that all these Curses shall come upon you and your family, curses shalt be in the City of St. Joseph and Cursed shalt thou be in the field, cursed shall come upon you and your family and over take thee; cursed shall be the fruit of thy body. The Lord shall smite thee with consumption and with a fever and with an inflammation and with extreme burning. They the demons shall Pursue thee until thou persist."

MECAWI calls for all to support Rev. Pinkney

On Friday, Dec. 14 police in Benton Harbor dragged civil rights leader, Rev. Edward Pinkney, from his home to jail.  His crime?  Calling the judicial system in Berrien County corrupt and the judges "KKKers."  Police also seized his home computer.  Rev. Pinkney has been under house arrest with drastic conditions following his frame-up and conviction on phony "election fraud" charges.  Actually Rev. Pinkney had led a successful recall of a city council member thus bringing down the wrath of the entire political machine in Berrien County.

Rev. Pinkney began a hunger strike in jail to protest this outrageous attack on his free speech rights.  His jailers are lying to the public denying that Rev. Pinkney is on a hunger strike.

IMMEDIATE ACTION NEEDED:

CALL Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm's office at 517-373-3400 to demand that she restore constitutional rights in Benton Harbor and secure Rev. Edward Pinkney's release.  If you are representing a union, community group or church FAX the governor at 517-335-6863 on letterhead.  Or you can send a message ONLINE by going to www.michigan.gov/gov and clicking on "contact the governor" at the top.  Then scroll down to "online forms and feedback" box and click on "share your opinion."  A form will appear where you can type in your message.

This appeal is being circulated by the Michigan Emergency Committee Against War & Injustice (www.mecawi.org for background articles on Rev. Pinkney) with the support of Mrs. Pinkney.
